WHAT WE BELIEVE:
With deep roots in the Anglican tradition, Grace
Episcopal Church serves God and his people. As
members of the Anglican Communion, we balance
Catholic and Protestant principles as characterized in
via media instituted during the reign of Elizabeth I. The
via media is an expression of the inclusive middle
course between the traditional Catholic faith and
practice without submission to papal authority. Much
latitude for individual conscience is allowed, but
uniformity of worship (liturgical understanding) is
retained. As a result, the Episcopal Church today is
understood to be a place of inclusivity. Grace Episcopal
Church in Decorah was established in 1868. We whose
names are hereunto affixed deeply sensible of the truth
of the Christian Religion and earnestly desirous of
promoting its holy influence in our own hearts and in
those of our families and neighbors and having the
approval of the Ecclesiastical Authority of this Diocese,
do hereby associate ourselves under the name of
Grace Church Parish in Communion with the Protestant
Episcopal Church in the United States of American and
the Diocese of Iowa. Grace is now a growing parish,
grounded in our Sunday fellowship that begins with the
liturgy of the Eucharist supported by the traditional
music of the Church and much congregational singing.
The Book of Common Prayer shapes our liturgy and
summarizes our Christian beliefs.
